In regards to your original post about what they think….. let me throw out a few things. This from a “Kano” who is living here for almost three years and works with the Police/private security section in and around Mindanao.
Filipinos LOVE Americans, treat you special and have generally adopted our Pop culture as their own. However, they DO NOT love American military,(partly because of the reason listed in this thread) or any military for that matter, specially their own….every where you go, you here tales of the “Old days” and of course Marcos and Martial law, many preceive US influence in Marcos invoking martial law. The Phils booted us out of Clark and Subic so certain powerful families here could get their hands on all the resources, real estate and goodies left behind.
There is a marked dislike of the US prevelant in the upper classes, the ruling elete as I call it, By most estimates there are about five hundred families that control most of the Politics, enterprise and finance here. These folks seem most opposed to US intervention of any type. The group you mentioned were doctors etc, may be from this particular class, strange because they have the most to gain by maintaining the status quo and the most to loose if the Moro sepratists and worse the NPA ever gain control.
Yet they think they can control the “rebeldie” with their ineffective military and police. And there is a great deal of outside help like the Saudi’s the Lybians on one end and all the commie symps on the other.
Lately a lot of craziness has been going on as the election heats up, GMA has her backers but suffers from a loss of confidence, Fernando Po Jr may make it if they can decide if he’s a Filipino citizen or not. If Ping Lacson gets in….everybody duck.

Thats my take on it, wants your money or your soul, likely both, constitutional monarchy eh? For those of you who don’t know who the revernd jim jones was, do a little research, he wanted to establish a “paradise” also, picked Guyanna, established a commune & got about 800 people to drink poison koolaide, round about 1980 or so.

Yes folks, in almost every major city and a few Minor ones, you have Mole people, squatters and Phantoms, New York city has a city within a city in the Subways, utility conduits and all sorts or weird places.
Here are a few I can relate from my days as DC’s finest.
Condo canyon:
It runs UNDER the freeway from where the Watergate is all the way out to Geogetown bridge. You gain access by climbing up a rope ladder and then crawl on all fours, about 100 people still living there in 1998. Had partitioned “rooms” set up, furniture, bars, stores and even high jacked electricity.
We used to hunt for suspects, fugitives there all the time. First guy I caught in there was wayyyyy back in 1982, called him the “freeway rapist”
guy struck near the Parkway and freeway during early morning rush hour & always disappared, some body snitched him out as well as his fantastic hideout. Some of the monuments have had “phantoms” hiding in them off and on for years, they escape through old conbduits to the outside if they hear someone. Lots of these tunnels were sealed up due to terrorist threats recently. One of the most famous “Phantoms” was in the Kennedy center, circa 1985, guy lived in there for years, crawling around the conduits, came down to eat in the gormet kitchen
Just some advice, dont go crawling around in these places. The folks in these areas and Hobo jungles are potentially dangerous, often on the run from the law, might take you for the cops and kill you.

Dont trust the Them no matter what. Lybia was responsible for a lot of terrorism in the 80’s not just the Lockerbie bombing. Khadaffy financed a LOT of terrorist training in his country any and all cuases, and these lunatics spread out all over the globe causing death , injury and suffering to thousands of innocent people.
Supposedly Khadaffy is interested in being a good little boy and throwing a lot of money around to compensate for his former distardly deeds.
My position is that He is truly repentant and wants to make amends that he offer up anyone and everyone involved in terrorist acts(to include his immediate staff ) to those countries in which the actions were committed for the respective criminal justice system, this includes cooperating with investigators and representatives of the US, Europe, Isreal, Asia etc. Then We’ll think about it.

The locals here make several types (all of which I can’t stand) mostly from dried salted fish, dried in the sun, heavily salted and then smothered in garlic and dried somemore. you can smell it a mile away. The worst is called “Balili”, it is supposed to age for a few months to be appreciated. nothing worst than smelling it in the morning bering deep fried some more in corn oil and onions after a hard night. I do like octopus thats been “jerked” and have had the garlic left out, quite tasty actually.

Only two options as I see it, one is let him face Iraqi justice, which I don’t think will be much in the way of a “fair and impartial trial”, a complete circus ending with a bullet in the head or worse, not exactly a great image for an “imerging democracy” but it will focus a lot of hostility on the man and possibly away from colition troops, politically, I thinbk this is the best choice.
Option two is turn him (and many others in the regime) over to the world court, try him in the Hague
Problem with the second one is, the Iraqi’s might come totally unglued, figuring its some kinda sham, we lied etc, might make it tougher to cement things back together plus what happens on the outside chance he gets off or gets a light sentence? In the mean time, we clean him up, hold him in a cell, trot him out like a dancing bear every once in a while and use it for all the propaganda, reverse psych we can, this will give us a chance to see what impact this capture will actually have until things cool down.

Kurt you need to peruse the overseas jobs for computer security, networking etc. Check out singapore and Bangkok specifically. Also check into the cell phone giants like Nokia. Pay may not so great but cost of living is cheap and you’d get to travel a lot.

yes, condom vendiung machines, no big deal, growing up in rural Pennsylvania all the gas station mens rooms were host to a condom vending machine, first required stop on any date in my old chevie was at the gas station.
‘Corse weird stuff in vending machines, try Taiwan, thought I was getting a can of soda but it was a can of talcum powder.
As far as underwear in vending machines, sounds right for the Japs, I’ve heard they often advertise in their local newspapers about buying “used” panties often from “schoolgirls”…….then there was the entrepenuer who was going on regional buying sprees and comeing back to sushi land and selling ’em for a profit.

Computer security is a little out of my line, I usually refer cleints who want that to a few of the local “wire heads” whom you can trust well kinda… there are sooooooo many hackers here in the PI and soooooo many computer fraud deals (like the ones you outlined) ya need a score card to keep up. Also, there are VERY FEW PC’s here, mostly these guys go to internaet Cafe’s and do the deed, its harder to trace ’em like that.

Kramer, the best source for military records is the National Archives, try contacting them or you can show up in Wash DC and fill out a request for a “researchers card”. Find out what units were fighting in those areas and also look up the association, and the unit historian Example, the 33rd US infantry was in the Pacific theater, also such specialty units as “The black Cats” army air corps were down in that region. Good luck.

Kurt, most PD’s now have a “cyber crimes” unit or at least a “wire head” assigned to support detectives working internet related cases. The FBI had a whole unit set up to catch child molesters who were chatting up teenagers in order to make a case, prove they were violating parole etc. Then many Narc units and Org crime sections also have the same in order to find evidence on computers seized during a raid about off shore accounts and money laundering. Problem is a lot of these units are now “reorganized” to hunt down terrorists.
My tech info is a bit dated, but we used to use “pen registerers” quite frequently and with great success. It basically traces all calls incoming and out going to a certain number, easier to get than a title 3 tap. Our unit “wire head” used to rig it into his office computer so we could have a print out come time to show Hizzoner for warrants etc.
Also give me an email and I’ll give you some additional info on some training you might be interested in concerning doing your own “trap and trace”.

Will pass this along in certain circles. Never ceases to amaze me that clowns like this can operate among skiled professionals and rope ’em in.
Generally, if it sounds too good to be true it usually is, one of the first rules in security consulting, private investigation or security work of any kind is that you get a retainer up front if you never worked for these guys before, if they are unwilling to do that, shine ’em on. If they refuse to front funds for travel, at the same time talking about all this money they have and the fat juicy contracts, its a red flag.
Most Military/Police/LE are hosting retirement seminars for their “pending retirees” they talk about scams like this and how not to get caught up in one, guess the poor SF in this tale didn’t attend.
