You know Rob, I’ve been experimenting with that damn page and the funny thing about that venue is that the pure travel stuff doesn’t always generate the most interest! Understand that I try very hard to keep it themeatic to the *Mission statement* as it were but sometimes a good change up is what gets peoples attention.

Anyway thanks for being so supportive and letting me have fun with it!

The problem with the white flowers comes from the fact that most of the bugs are black, brown or dark coloured and sitting on a perfectly white background usually in blaring sun cos that’s when bugs are most active here.

If I expose for the shadows (ie. shoot to the right) then the white background gets clipped. If I expose for the highlights then I lose detail in the bug – that means I have to jack up exposure in post production. As you know going from dark to light in post causes noise and looks kinda shithouse. I sometimes managed to get it right, but it stands out as a difficult situation compared to my beloved pink flowers. ;)

On the green, will just play with ISO I guess cos I am using diffused flash already. Might buy an umbrella.

      Rob,
Use a polarizer (highligh glare), a fill flash helps (shadow detail, ring lights strobes are perfect I have a Sunpak) together and Lee is right in Photoshop you can use the Highlight/Shadow adjustment, it’s a lifesaver. Depending on what focal length macro you are using a flash can be fleixble. I have the old standby 55mm Nikkor, a 90mm Tamron and a 70-150 (or something similar) macro zoom Nikkor some are better for somethings than others and obviously the big lens needs a pod unless you’re filling in with flash.

The only issue with RAW is depending on the resolution and sizing you’ll be daeling with Massive image file sizes. If your PC can hadle processing them and you have time to spare I guess that’s ok. I shoot most macro on my *Old* Fuji S-2 and as TIFF the are ~34meg each and I adjust res and size in photoshop, but my PC which I just upgraded wasn’t cheap so personally for me time is at a premium anymore.

Was surprised to hear that Spain had never actually won the thing.

Yes it was, I’m happy though that at least this go around it will be a first time team whomever comes out on top.

I’m rooting for the Netherlands though I think the Spanish will more than likely prevail hopefully it will be a good close game that doesn’t end in penalty kicks (my Yankee predispositions are showing I’m sure) or something stupid like a missed call.

      Go Germany for 3rd place!

I REALLY enjoyed the tourney this year, a good friend of mine who visits me regularly is very glad it’s over simply because of having to listen to the vuvuzelas. He found them unbearable but they honestly didn’t bother me at all…

      They’re all heretics IMO!

May their ears all plug with wax and their eyes stick shut from a bad case of conjunctivitis and a herpes sore upon their lips!

I’d blame it on hours of sitting in front of the computer, mindlessly copy and pasting old stories into the new system, setting up new authors and occasioanlly going back to such stories cos an author gets stroppy that something is wrong with his story. ;)

I agree with you Rob about many of the points you’re making especially the student statement!

I don’t have the time to elaborate currently so I’ll try to post a more involved bit later.

Between the officiating and watching all these drama queens taking dives and then rolling about grimacing like someone just shanked them in the ribs, it’s a shame because I really love to watch these games.

It amazes me that the Vuvuzelas seem to get FIFA’s attention but this other stuff is a collective “meh” to them. “That’s just the nature of the game” is a lame rational, especially given the limited nature of the event. No question in my mind that next time around there needs to be video review, lord knows where technology will be 4 years from now!!

Yeah Karma is a bitch I’m much more satisfyed that’s he got nailed in Peru as oppsed to him doing “Hard time” in Aruba which for him would have probably amounted to Community service like picking up trash on the beach or painting some cabanas somewhere there after buying off upper crust elite in power.

I hope those Shamans (and whomever else) get this parasite good.

Ideally no they should have done it within their territorial waters but realistically it really wouldn’t matter how they handled it because they would be critisized for whatever they would do, so they may as well get to it sooner rather than later.

      Unfortunately they handled it poorly.

What irritated me far more than anything the Israelis did to some activists/Moslems/Aid workers didn’t bother me a fraction of what some fellow peace loving Moslems in Pakistan did to some fellow Moslems that were attempting to worship in peace in thier mosque, but instead some peace loving genius thought it was a more peaceful and just to machine gun them during prayer….nice bunch….too bad they have all this injustice caused by Israel though.

If Israel didn’t exist all those Moslems lives would be WAY better
