Was upgraded to category 5 last night. This will almost certainly be both the largest and most powerful cyclone that Australia has ever seen.

I am safe enough down here in Sydney, but I wouldn’t like to be between Cairns and Mackay. They have already evacuated Cairns hospital (and that ain’t small). After the floods and now this, my home state is copping a hell of a battering this year.

The missus has elderly relatives in Brisbane, in a suburb right on the coast, I’ll check with her mum to see what their plans are. That looks like a right fucking shocker on the TV

      Rob,

Can you haul your arse up there lively, and get us a story?
Some pics and a bit of video might be nice, too.

Traffic should be easy enough; it’ll all be going in the opposite direction.

Which suburb mate? My dad is down at Manly.

Unfortunately Lee, if I jumped in the car and left now, I would be in cairns some time on Saturday. ;)

A teenage daughter of one our friends from Hondo is in Townsville. She’s hanging in there for the moment, I’m sure facebook will have plenty of pics as soon as she gets the chance to put them up. It’s a bruiser of a storm though, that’s for sure.

@Lee – sorry mate – accidentally deleted a post of yours.

Would it be possible to average 60mph in a straight line between London and Ukraine? Curious, cos there’s no way you could do that with Sydn to Cairns.

      @Flipflop
      – that’s right next door.

1500 miles by road, I wrote. Not in a straight line.

Rob if you use The Force I bet you could make it.

Text from my gal out of Townsville “I’m alive” I’m betting she’s actually never been MORE alive.

Everything is smashed the bananas and cane is gone. Heard a story of a farmer staying in the middle of the field in his dozer, with his dog.
The second link should have the video with the 72 year old and dog, it’s the Tully video.

Not a single fatality so far. Fucking amazing.

But one town, they haven’t been able to get to yet.
