Fear under Chechens in Austria
Audio
Length: 3:07 min
Ö1 midday journal – Markus Mueller
“It could have met everyone of us” – is located in a panel in the Internet, which is read of many Chechens in Austria. Between 20.000 and 35.000 Chechens since the two wars into the 1990ern to Austria fled. The majority of them got political asylum.Control also in the exile
For the different Chechnian on-line media the case is clear: It was a political murder, which was assigned of the president of Chechnya Ramzan Khadyrov. This estimate confirms Siegfried Stupnig of the association Aspis in complaint ford, which cares for refugees from Chechnya for years: “A former Khadyrov bodyguard is killed in Austria. That is a real indication of it, as much Khadyrov the people also in the European exile apparently to control would like.”Chechnian government-in-exile in Austria
The unofficial Ambassador of the Chechnian government-in-exile in Austria, Husain Iskhanov, confirms this estimate opposite Ö1, is not ready however not for a telephone interview: The murder was given politically in order.Around police protection angesucht
Over the person of the murdered Umar Israilov there are different data: It is to have been only resistance fighters, have overflowed then as a commander on the side of the per-Russian president Khadyrov, allegedly after it was tortured. Shortly thereafter it fled then to Austria and even around police protection angesucht here. This version tells his widow and also the exiled politician Iskhanov.Russian secret service in Austria actively
Other Chechens doubt this version: It is hardly conceivable that a defector can ascend immediately to the commander. A simple Kriminalfall in the Chechnian Mileiu is it nevertheless not, means refugee responsible persons Siegfried Stupnig: “This murder should remind perhaps also of the fact that the Russian secret service is rather active in Austria. Here again also the Chechnian society is discredited as entire. It is spoken already again of particularly high willingness to use violence with Chechens. I would regard this murder as political murder, as of the Russian secret service led.”Fear before Repressalien
In the Chechnian Community is the readiness, officially to media over the case to speak very small: According to the Tschetschenen representative Iskhanov would have already reacted the authorities in Chechnya on the medium reporting in Austria and to the members of the persons, who occurred therein, would have announced themselves – the possible beginning of Repressalien. All here living Chechens would have fear around their members. Who announces itself abroad critically to word, endanger the security of its family. No danger of terrorism
The investigators of the ministry of the Interior and the law do not want to take position at present to the case: Arrested one the yesterday is transferred today into the punishing national court Vienna. It is in addition a house search in Lower Austria gave. The ministry of the Interior takes the case very seriously, says speaker Rudolf Gollia. “These domestic conflicts are bring along naturally. The willingness to use violence is unfortunately given with many humans, and the inhibition threshold is low.” A general danger of terrorism for Austria does not exist howeverLeft

Correct. I assumed (perhaps wrongly) that the article on Daghestan was the one that was referenced, purely as some kind of related part of the discussion; related purely because it’s the same region, and Chenciner is an authority on the subject.
Otherwise, you’re right… It can only be the original Chechnyan piece from 2005.
