Nov. 23 (Bloomberg) — Cholera killed nine inmates and infected another 43 at Kenya’s maximum security Kamiti prison, the Daily Nation reported, citing the East African nation’s Commission on Human Rights.
The Nairobi city council has since started delivering clean water to the country’s most-populated prison by tanker, the capital-based newspaper said, citing Fatuma Dullo, a spokeswoman with the human rights watchdog.
Cholera bacterium is spread through contaminated drinking water, causing severe diarrhea and vomiting and can lead to fatal dehydration.
