Bradt is usually my first choice when I travel. In Africa, when compared to a few pages in LP, entire guides were lifesavers - Uganda for sure, but also such off the beaten track places as Malawi, Ethiopia and Eritrea. These places have far less infrastructure than the well-trodden Cape to Cairo routes and using Bradt made all the difference for me.

I really only ever find the maps a useful feature in guidebooks - and sometimes the "overview" if I really know nothing.

I might have to get me one of these Bradts to check out for myself.

Bradt's Ethiopia was about ten times more useful that LP's. They might be on to something with their approach to Africa.

I personally think that Bradt have taken the LP style (that's obviously a success) and moved it to a new level.

The maps just seem far too basic, but then that might just be that I've not gotten used to them yet.

Good review Lee - it's certainly refreshing to not have to rely on LP for this stuff. What are the maps like in Bradt?
