Very well-written! It will be interesting to see if the U.S. government can truly get the country to open up a bit, because I believe that will really transform the country. Just give those people the opportunity to think freely!

Well balanced piece. Back in 1998 some two million people were relocated from Pyongyang to the countryside to get more people involved in basic food production. This also had the effect of reducing those who might otherwise crowd Pyongyang's streets. To your credit, you recognize a Potemkin city when you see one.

I took a trip there a year ago and think it's a very accurate article, was also suprised by the calm contra propaganda contrast and the anticlimax in the customs.

Actually, Cavit Erginsoy is a fine photographer. Unfortunately, Zuma Press, who hold the publishing rights to his DPRK pictures, lack even the decency to acknowledge my email request to them, that we might use a few of the pictures with the article. Hence my having to source a different photographer.

Cavit's pictures can be viewed at http://www.erginsoy.com/korea
